What Is Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service?

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) provides an emergency response service to over one million people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Our mission is creating Safer People, Safer Places. Everything we do is with that in mind.\n\nKey facts about our organisation:\n\n• 20 fire stations \n• a fleet of fire engines and other operational vehicles \n• 700 staff (580 firefighters) \n• 8,000 emergency incidents attended each year \n• 979 square miles coverage \n• over 420,000 domestic properties \n• over 45,000 business premises\n\nDuring 2018/19, the Service attended 762 road traffic collisions, of which 125 were extrications from vehicles, in addition to ¬2,569 fires. We carried out 6,746 home safety checks and fitted 4,790 smoke alarms. 279 schools were visited as part of the Service’s schools programme, delivering fire and road safety education to pupils. Staff organised or took part in 1,068 community safety events, promoting fire and road safety and arson prevention, and 134 Virtual Fatal Four (VF4) events as part of the Service’s young drivers’ road safety project. \n\nThe Service’s prevention, education, enforcement and inspection programmes have resulted in significant reductions in the number of incidents. In the last ten years, fire-related incidents have reduced by over 30 percent. \n\nThe Service's 20 fire stations are crewed by both Wholetime and On-Call firefighters on a range of duty systems. Alongside our operational crews, we have over 100 staff who work behind-the-scenes in departments such as Workshops, HR, Appliances and Equipment, Corporate Communications, Executive Support, Finance, IT, amongst many more.
