The Independent Society of Musicians (ISM) is the UK’s professional body for musicians and a leading subject association for music.\n\nThe ISM was set up in 1882 to promote the importance of music and protect the rights of those working within music. It is an independent, not-for-profit membership organisation with nearly 11,000 music professionals in its membership.\n\nThe ISM protects and supports its members by providing them with expert legal advice and representation, comprehensive insurance and specialists services as well as access to a community of like-minded musicians and the status that comes with being a member of a professional body. The ISM also campaigns tirelessly for the rights of all musicians and in support of the music profession. \n\nMembers of the ISM come from all over the music profession and from a variety of different musical backgrounds.
