What Is ITDP - India?
The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) is a global non-profit that works with cities worldwide to bring about inclusive sustainable transport solutions and transit-oriented development that reduce pollution, alleviate poverty and enhance the quality of urban life. Our work is rooted in a multi-pronged strategy of: Inspire cities to take action, Create best practice examples, Embed best practices as standards and processes and Expand through capacity development. ITDP was established in 1985 and is headquartered in the United States. Its network has offices in Asia, Africa and Latin America, and has worked with more than 100 cities worldwide. ITDP’s network, of over 100 staff, has some of the world’s leading experts in sustainable urban transport with extensive experience in solving the challenges of congestion, pollution, and social exclusion in numerous cities, through technical support for policy reform and project implementation. ITDP’s engagements in India began over two decades ago and have impacted more than 30 cities across the country till date. It currently has formal engagements with public agencies at the city- and state- level in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Jharkhand, where it provides technical guidance and training on the planning, design and implementation of sustainable mobility solutions. The Urban Works Institute, an Indian not-for-profit organisation registered under the Charitable Trusts Act, is ITDP’s network and implementation partner in India. Urban Works has offices in Chennai, Delhi, Pune and Ranchi.
