What Is Howard University Student Association?

MISSION The Howard University Student Association (HUSA) is the official representative voice for all students within Howard University. HUSA supports the mission of Howard University in its commitment to truth and service and seeks to enhance the entire student body experience by advocating for new and innovative pathways to improve student success, as well as enhancing the overall environment for students on campus. The Howard University Student Association strives to establish and grow partnerships among the student body, faculty and administration and provides opportunities for students to become productive leaders of the campus, local, and global communities. Through its service to Howard University, HUSA creates a positive and rewarding experience for all those who step foot into the Mecca. HISTORY The Howard University Student Association (HUSA) was established in 1961 and adopted its constitution in January of 1977. Fifty-Seven Years ago, the students of Howard University, saw the necessity to create an entity that would provide for: broad involvement and adequate representation of all major student segments. This mechanism would speak to the needs of students in the various schools and colleges and improve the channels of communication between the administration, students, and faculty. The organization would also serve to effectively maintain relationships with student government organizations at other institutions, and it would need to address community concerns. Finally, and most importantly, this organization would need to provide assistance in determining the future direction of the University. Fifty-Five years ago, the Howard University Student Association (HUSA) was born.
