Heartland Express Inc. is a short- to medium-haul truckload carrier of general commodities. Heartland provides nationwide transportation service to major shippers, using late-model equipment and a combined fleet of Company-owned and owner-operator tractors. The Company\'s primary traffic lanes are between customer locations east of the Rocky Mountains, with selected service to the West. Serving the short- to medium-haul market permits the Company to use primarily single, rather than team drivers and dispatch most trailers directly from origin to destination without an intermediate equipment change other than for driver scheduling purposes. Heartland also operates seven specialized regional distribution operations near Atlanta, Georgia; Carlisle, Pennsylvania; Columbus, Ohio; Jacksonville, Florida; Kingsport, Tennessee; Chester, Virginia, and Olive Branch, Mississippi.
