What Is H and H Color Lab?
The history of H&H Color Lab is one of tremendous growth and change. It all started in the basement of Wayne Haub's home in Kansas City, Missouri. The year was 1970 and H&H Color Lab had one customer, Ted Haub, Wayne's brother and a professional photographer. Soon, word spread and other professional photographers and studios around town started showing up at Wayne's house. Names like Bailey Studio, Larry Moore Photography, Harry Barth, Tom Mallot and Classic Studio, to name a few. Many are still customers today. With a growing customer list, H&H was destined to grow, too. One person turned into five and the business relegated to the basement now demanded the Haubs' garage, a spare bedroom, a corner of the kitchen, all the surplus square footage the Haub family could muster. Considering the family was growing, too, something had to give. H&H Color moved out of the Haub residence and into its first and only location, 8906 E. 67th Street, in 1974. At that time the entire lab from the customer service counter to the final shipping area was located where the receiving area is today. In five short years, however, H&H ran out of space again. Rather than move our location which we were fond of, we built an addition and expanded. It would prove to be a sign of things to come. In 1983, we purchased two houses on adjacent Kentucky Street. Then we joined the two houses and our original 67th Street location with one roof and basement as well as a facade that made all three structures appear as one. The two houses addition included the art, mounting, spray, billing, shipping, customer counter and undergrad departments. The next decade brought more growth and change--another house purchase, a new supply warehouse and more additions. What's more, our customer list and employee staff continued to grow. 1997 marked a watershed for H&H Color Lab. In the original back parking lot, we built a 20,000 square foot addition to house order input, print production, pre-inspection and shipping departments. We also purchased our long-term, friendly competitor, Custom Color Portrait Lab. The influx of Custom Color's equipment and talented staff along with our newly designed space uniquely positioned H&H Color Lab for the challenges of the 21st Century. Because of plus 30 years of experience, H&H is ready to meet all the challenges this century has to offer! For those who still love the tried and true, we have mastered optical printing and know how to consistently produce high quality prints right and on time! All of our optical equipment hums along, just as stable as ever as our efficient employees use their experience to produce thousands of optical prints every day! But we also looked forward to the future. And for those who are interested in the new digital applications, we are well positioned and are on the leading edge of this new shift in our photography industry. Those who visit H&H will see a growing digital department hosting a full array of state of the art computer equipment used for scanning, printing, retouching and artwork. We are constantly writing software solutions and developing products for this exciting new technology as well as taking full advantage of all the solutions provided by suppliers such as Fuji and Kodak, which include ProShots and StudioMaster Pro. And along with this, we are using our talent and experience to help our customers enter this new century by sponsoring speakers throughout the country and by providing in-house training classes in our newly developed "H&H University".
