Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council is a girl-led youth organization that serves more than 4,100 girls throughout southern Idaho and in parts of Northern Nevada and Eastern Oregon. The council, along with a team of 2,300 local volunteers, delivers educational and leadership programs that build girls of courage, confidence, and character who positively impact the communities in which they live. Girl Scout programs promotes critical thinking, problem solving skills and applied learning through an inquiry-based learning environment that helps girls explore passions and develop new interests. Programs are available year-round including after-school and weekends. An essential component of Girl Scouting is community service. Girls choose, manage, and participate in community service projects that benefit thousands of local families and individuals who are underprivileged, homeless, hungry, sick and/or disabled. Last year, Girl Scouts of Silver Sage performed more than 259,000 hours of community service. Girls Scouts of Silver Sage Council currently employs 26 full-time staff and 5 part-time staff. Staff members plan and organize core programs and activities for girls and troops; provide support and training to 2,300 volunteers; manage registration of 4,000-4,500 girls per year plus camp registrations; plan and execute girl and volunteer recognition events, educational events, and fundraising events; manage a retail store that stocks Girl Scout guides, uniforms, patches, badges, etc.; manage the purchase and distribution of products (cookies, nuts and chocolates) to troops for delivery to consumers; manage community partnerships and donor relations; and deliver a “Visions” program for low-income, at-risk girls.
