What Is Ford Engineering Group?

Ford is an award winning, family owned corporation specialising in the machining and pressing of components and assemblies for the aerospace, automotive and related high technology industries. Ford was founded in the North East of England in 1910, known as Ford and Company with a total workforce of 3, and a single product, the brass corrugated Steam Joint or Taylor's Rings as they were more popularly known. Today, the Ford Engineering Group is comprised of 2 operating companies, Ford Aerospace and Ford Component Manufacturing, with a further area of focus, shared by both companies, comprising Laminated Shimstock, with 3 variations, called Easipeel, Plasipeel and Edgepeel. Ford Aerospace was born in 1982 from a standing start, and now generates 65% of the Group's sales. The main activity is the precision machining of components and mechanical assemblies for the aerospace industries in a wide variety of countries. Ford Component Manufacturing is the modern day version of the original Ford and Company, but now encompasses a vast press working capacity, punch press and CNC laser cutting, supplemented by the recent addition of a zinc phosphating process. The primary markets for Ford Components are Automotive, Yellow Goods, Diesel Engines and the wider General Engineering scene. Easipeel, Plasipeel and Edgepeel are all registered trade names for variants of the laminated, or peelable shim. Easipeel is a surface bonded material available in metal either as fully peelable on hybrids, which are part peelable, part solid. Plasipeel is supplied in a variety of plastic materials, and both Easipeel and Plasipeel are available in either sheet or finished shim configurations. Edgepeel shims are bonded on the periphery of the shim which assists with the re-use of individual parts of the overall shim set.
