What Is Eglin Air Force Base?

The DOD's second largest test & training complex. The 96th Test Wing is the test & evaluation center for Air Force air-delivered weapons, navigation & guidance systems, Command & Control systems, Air Force Special Operations Command systems. The wing provides expert evaluation & validation of performance of systems throughout design, development, acquisition, sustainment process to ensure warfighter has technologically superior, reliable, maintainable, sustainable and safe systems. The wing performs developmental test & evaluation across the complete system life cycle for wide variety of customers including: Air Force Systems Program Offices, Air Force Research Laboratory, logistics & product centers; major commands; other DoD services & U.S. government agencies (Department of Transportation, NASA, etc.); foreign military sales; & private industry. The 96th TW commander serves as installation commander to support Team Eglin w/traditional military services as well as the services of a small city, to include civil engineering, personnel, logistics, communications, computer, medical, security, all other host services. Critical to mission success, the wing provides a myriad of base operating support functions like material resources, mobility requirements, to meet the needs of personnel. There are seven distinct groups, including Air Force Seek Eagle, more than 30 squadrons and divisions; mgmt of approx. 120,000 square miles of over water airspace, the Air Force's largest fire program, emergency services, EOD squadron, & supply function. The Air Force's third largest hospital is here and has more than 92,000 beneficiaries & operates the Air Force's Invisible Wounds Center. It is home to the Air Force's largest transportation function in continental U.S.; an Air Force combat-coded control & reporting center & DoD level five software engineering software engineering status. The Air Force Armament Museum also falls under the 96th Test Wing.
