What Is Coney Island Prep?

Coney Island Prep is a school of firsts. The first charter school in South Brooklyn, Coney Island Prep opened the doors of its middle school in August 2009 to its first class of fifth graders. Our school was also the first to be located in a New York City Housing Authority public housing development, initially operating in just four rooms of the Carey Gardens Community Center on Coney Island’s Surf Avenue. \r\n\r\nFrom these humble beginnings, Coney Island Prep has grown each year. At full growth during the 2017-2018 school year, we will be the academic home of more than 1,000 scholars and 175 talented teachers and staff across our elementary, middle, and high school campuses. This K-12 continuum, once complete, will prepare our scholars for success from their first day of kindergarten through their high school graduation and onto the college and career of their choice.
