What Is Company Shop Group?
Company Shop Group is the UK's leading redistributor of surplus food and household products. Working with major retailers, manufacturers and brands, we stopped more than 70 million items from unnecessarily going to waste, in 2018 alone. We do this by rethinking, redefining, and redistributing surplus: • We protect the brands our clients work hard to create • We find solutions to tricky surplus challenges • We generate positive social, economic and environmental value across the supply chain We redistribute surplus stock through our network of membership-only stores and staff shops, to people working in food manufacturing, emergency services and the NHS. We have stores in Wentworth, Middleton, Corby, Grimsby, St Helens and our latest in Washington, Sunderland. Our membership policy helps to protect the brands our clients have worked hard to build, as our shoppers are educated about how and why surpluses exist. This model has developed over the last 40 years, winning The Grocer Gold Award for Best Business Initiative in 2013, being shortlisted for the BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards and winning the Food and Drink Federation Awards in 2014. In 2015 Company Shop was awarded the covetable Queens Award for Enterprise, in the category of Sustainable Development and was named as one of the 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain by the London Stock Exchange Group. Company Shop provides a financial return to the suppliers of surplus goods, rather than incurring a cost, as is often the case with diversion to anaerobic digestion or landfill. We work closely with clients to utilise our efficient logistics and experienced team to move food quickly, sell it within date and prevent it becoming waste. This enables our clients to achieve positive environmental, economic and social impact. The Group is also home to its award-winning social enterprise Community Shop, where we build stronger individuals and more confident communities.
