What Is Companion Animal Specialty and Emergency Hospital?
Since opening in 1997, our practice and the veterinary industry has seen many changes. Animal Emergency of McHenry County (AEMC) began with the McHenry County Veterinary Association, a group of local veterinarians. The group initially worked on a rotational schedule so that one of the hospitals took the responsibility of weekend emergencies. Several members came together and opened as a Crystal Lake day practice and an after hours emergency clinic. AEMC grew rapidly and after nine short months we opened in a 2,400 sf facility on Virginia Street in Crystal Lake, while continuing to function as an after hours ER until May 2004. At this time we began to operate as a 24-hour ER. Growth continued, and in March 2006, AEMC move to its current 4,280 sf location on Pingree Road in Crystal Lake. Moving to our new location, we doubled in size and added additional services to better fill the needs of our community. We immediately added canine rehabilitation, and in 2008 added Internal Medicine to our list of services. AEMC had the privilege to partner with Veterinary Specialty Center in Buffalo Grove beginning in 2011, bringing board-certified surgeons to our facility. In 2013, we changed our name to Companion Animal Specialty and Emergency Hospital (CASE) to better identify our range of services. Late 2014 and early 2015 saw yet another change for CASE as we doubled in size, growing to just under 10,000 sf. The expansion allowed for our Integrative Medicine department to add a second underwater treadmill, land treadmill, and gait analysis system, the first of its kind in the state. Our surgery department was expanded and modernized, with advanced lighting, and the latest in anesthetic and monitoring care. A CT suite was also added, giving great advancement in imaging and diagnostics. CASE continues with our goal of providing the very best specialty and emergency medicine through personalized and compassionate care serving the Greater McHenry County community.
