What Is City of Fairview Heights?
Located conveniently on Interstate 64 just 12 miles east of St. Louis, the City of Fairview Heights has approximately 3.5 million square feet of commercial space, making it the largest retail center in Illinois south of Chicagoland. It is home to the super regional St. Clair Square mall and seven other shopping centers, more than 75 restaurants and eight hotels and motels. I-64, the St. Louis region's fastest-growing transportation corridor, straddles Fairview Heights with traffic counts at Exit 12 exceeding 75,000 cars per day. Open since 1974, St. Clair Square boasts over 1 million square feet of retail space with 140 specialty stores. St. Clair Square is anchored by four national retailers: JCPenney, Sears, Macy's, and Dillard's. Other major retail centers in Fairview Heights include the Crossroads Centre, Fairview City Centre, Fairview Heights Plaza, Lincoln Place Shopping Center, and the Marketplace Shopping Center. Long recognized as a retail center, Fairview Heights is beginning to emerge as one of the great places to live in St. Louis' Metro East region. Construction of a new $19 million recreation center, complementing earlier projects such as the Miracle League baseball field at Moody Park, will add to the community's attractiveness as a place to play.
