Chattanooga Whiskey was founded in 2011 to bring whiskey back to our hometown after more than 100 years of prohibition. Once a thriving center for the Southern spirits industry, Chattanooga, TN had more than 20 distilleries and 60 wholesalers until state laws made bourbon production illegal, forcing the last distillery to close its doors in 1915. Our “Vote Whiskey” campaign helped change century old state laws with overwhelming community and industry support. In March of 2015, the Tennessee Stillhouse, our micro-distillery & tasting room, opened across from the historic Chattanooga Choo Choo on downtown's Market St., symbolizing the end to a century of prohibition and finally bringing whiskey back to its roots. Our 1816 straight bourbon whiskey has won accolades from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the American Distilling Institute, the Ultimate Spirits Challenge and the International Whisky Competition. Our whiskies have been blind tasted by panels of industry experts, endowing us with sought-after awards such as “Best Bourbon Whiskey” and “Best Small Batch Bourbon.” And we're just getting started. The Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Distillery (formerly Tennessee Stillhouse) serves as both as a tourism experience and a research and development hub, allowing whiskey enthusiasts to learn about and experience the production process from grain to glass. Our 100-gallon system allows our team to hand-craft innovative mash bills, all while staying true to tradition and striving to build a better bourbon. Chattanooga Whiskey is currently expanding to add a larger production facility in the heart of downtown on the Tennessee River. Upon its completion in 2017, it will be one of the largest craft distilleries in the country. Our philosophy, “rules are good, change them” continues to guide everything we do. Whiskey to the People.
