What Is Canadian Bar Association - Alberta Branch?

The Canadian Bar Association is the essential ally and advocate of all members of the legal profession; it is the voice for all members of the profession, and its primary purpose is to serve its members; it is the premier provider of personal and professional development and support to all members of the legal profession; it promotes fair justice systems, facilitates effective law reform, promotes equality in the legal profession and is devoted to the elimination of discrimination; the CBA is a leading edge organization committed to enhancing the professional and commercial interests of a diverse membership and to protecting the independence of the judiciary and the Bar. \r\n\r\nThe CBA is a professional, voluntary organization which was formed in 1896. The Alberta Branch was formed in 1915, and currently has nearly 5,300 members. Nationally, the CBA has some 37,000 members, with approximately two-thirds of all practising lawyers in Canada belonging to the CBA.\r\n \r\nThe Alberta Branch promotes the work of lawyers through our public legal education programs and Law Day activities. We assist the public in accessing legal help by providing volunteers to assist non-profit organizations, advocating for expanded legal aid and promoting pro bono work by lawyers. The CBA-Alberta does this and more through the dedication of our members - lawyers, judges, and law students who volunteer their time to advance the profession and public interest.
