What Is CITIC Pacific Mining?

About CITIC Pacific Mining CITIC Pacific Mining is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hong Kong listed company CITIC Pacific Limited which is 58% owned by CITIC Group Corporation. Headquartered in Perth, the company was established to manage the construction and operation of the Sino Iron project, an integrated mining, processing and port operation that will secure a long term stable source of quality materials for the Chinese special steel mills owned and operated by the group. CITIC Pacific Mining is spearheading the growth of a new industry in Australia through the large scale mining of magnetite iron ore. Our project is making it possible to produce steel from resources in Australia that have been considered low value until now. CPM is a values driven organisation with a vision to be a great place to work. Underpinning our vision is our commitment to our people; the community; the environment; and a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. About the Sino Iron project The massive Sino Iron project has been developed at Cape Preston, 100 kilometres south west of Karratha in Western Australia's Pilbara region. It is the largest magnetite mining and processing operation in Australia focused on delivering a world class magnetite iron ore development which will add value to the Western Australian economy through significant downstream processing, employment, community benefits and international technology transfer while balancing social and environmental considerations. The project is one of China's largest investments into the Australian resources sector and is owned by Hong Kong-based CITIC Pacific. Production of magnetite concentrate started in late 2012 and the first shipment was sent to China in 2013.
