At the forefront for over 130 years, Beneteau is well into its second century as pleasure boating's world standard. The year was 1884 when Benjamin Bénéteau opened his boatyard in the town of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie on the French Atlantic Coast. The fishing boats he and his family built had to be rugged enough to handle the North Atlantic weather's worst moods, and fast enough to make it back to port first to get the best prices for their catch! In the 130 years since, neither Benjamin or any of his descendants ever looked back. The Beneteau brand has become synonymous with innovation and quality serious mariners crave. Beneteau was one of the first builders to utilize internal combustion engine technology, thus changing the commercial fishing industry forever. Then in 1964 his grandchildren, Annette and André, pioneered the use of fiberglass in hull design introducing an entire generation to the joys of recreational boating. Since then, improvements, refinements and new technologies too numerous to mention have graced the Beneteau fleet every year, keeping the brand at the forefront of sail and power boating around the globe. In 2016 Beneteau America is celebrating 30 years of boat building in the USA.
