What Is Battersea Power Station?

Battersea Power Station is at the heart of one of central London's largest & most visionary new developments, which will see this vast 42 acre former industrial brownfield site transformed into a community of homes, offices, retail, community facilities, cultural venues & 18 acres of public space serviced by an extension to the Northern Line underground service. The overall project is divided into seven phases, with each phase to be designed by a range of architects including Frank Gehry & Norman Foster and is anticipated to be completed in 2025. Battersea Power Station is at the cornerstone of Nine Elms, the single largest regeneration site in central London & the capital's up & coming diplomatic quarter with the US & Dutch embassies relocating to the area. Situated on London's famous cultural South Bank & within a few minutes' walking distance of Chelsea & Westminster, the development will create a sustainable & vibrant community in its own right, generating employment opportunities & investment in the surrounding area. The redevelopment of the Battersea Power Station site is part-funding an extension to the Northern Line & will provide new stations at Nine Elms & Battersea Power Station. The underground station will be located on the grounds of the site & is set to become part of a wider public transport hub including river taxi, bus & train connections. One of the finest surviving examples of art deco architecture, the Power Station once produced a fifth of London's power & provided electricity to some of the capital's most recognizable addresses such as Carnaby Street, Houses of Parliament & Buckingham Palace. Since then it has become a familiar& much loved icon in pop culture, famously appearing on the cover of Pink Floyd's 1977 album, Animals. The Battersea Power Station site is owned by a consortium of Malaysian investors comprising S P Setia, Sime Darby and the Employees' Provident Fund.
