The Ballston Spa Central School District is offering a variety of summer programs and enrichment experiences for students during the summer months. Classes are being held at the elementary, middle and high school levels for over 700 students in a variety of academic and enrichment courses. Programs are offered at all grade levels for over 60 special education students in an "Extended School Year Program". Also, over 120 high school students have registered for five enrichment classes, including online courses, to further their studies in the summer months. Driver's education is also provided for students in the summer months, with vehicles provided by Mangino's Auto Group. In addition, over 150 students are participating in a variety of summer academic enrichment experiences with partners from throughout the region. Programs include a Gateway Academy (pre-engineering for middle school students) funded through a Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Education Foundation grant, a Digital Video Production program funded by the State Farm Insurance Company, an ACT Now (drama troupe) funded by the State Farm Insurance Company and in collaboration with the Prevention Council, a Video Game Design Program (characters & worlds) offered with Mildred Elley, a creative movement summer program with the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, and a two-week Lego Robotics Camp held in conjunction with RPI. Area organizations offer many opportunities for students during the summer months in the school buildings. Hudson Valley Community College offers college courses in the high school during the summer (as well as the fall). The Ballston Area Recreation Commission, or BARC, offers a morning enrichment program, in partnership with the district, with over 400 students enrolled this month. The aquatics program offers a variety of opportunities for the students and the community to utilize the district's swimming facility, located at the high school. Sports camps, theatre programs, music lessons and enrichment classes are also scheduled throughout the summer months.
