What Is Asian American Federation?

The Asian American Federation is one of the strongest leadership voices advocating for better policies, services, and funding that lead to more justice and opportunity for Asian immigrants, one of New York City's poorest and underserved communities. In partnership with our 70+ member organizations, we support youth, families, workers, and seniors from more than 20 ethnic groups—diverse in language, culture, and religion—that make up New York’s Asian community, by providing expert research and unrelenting advocacy; working with lawmakers to change policies, and training Asian nonprofits to better serve their communities. Our work is changing the systems that are holding back our communities from achieving success. Founded in 1989 with the mission to raise the influence and well-being of the pan-Asian American community through research, policy advocacy, public awareness, and nonprofit support, AAF is one of the largest umbrella leadership organizations in the nation serving diverse Asian American communities that make up the fastest growing population in the city, state, and the country. We represent the collective interests of New York’s 1.4 million-strong pan-Asian community across critical issues such as immigrant integration, mental health, economic development, senior wellbeing, and civic engagement.  We use our original research reports to draw attention to and advocate for our community’s needs. We ensure that Asian Americans have a seat at the table and a say in public policy discussions. We secure funding to support special initiatives that lead to equity and justice for New York's most low-income and disempowered communities and work to support our 70+ member organizations as they bring these programs to scale. We also strengthen our member nonprofits by providing technical assistance - such as Board Training and Fundraising Workshops -  that they need to better serve their communities.
