What Is Argo Group?
Colony Specialty began as "Colony" in 1994, after serving the excess and surplus market since 1988 under a different banner. The Argonaut Group, now Argo Group, acquired the Colony insurers in 2001 as part of a strategic plan to become a national specialty underwriter. In 2010, Argo Group combined two of their three excess and surplus lines companies, Colony and Argonaut Specialty, to form one company with a new name and a renewed purpose -- Colony Specialty. Our sister company, Argo Pro, continues on as a specialty underwriter of professional business.
