Amarillo Economic Development Corporation Revenue and Competitors

In 1989, the state of Texas introduced new legislation allowing individual communities to use a portion of local sales tax collections to fund economic and community development efforts. Later that same year, Amarillo voters chose to invest the maximum-allowed 1/2-cent sales tax to create a 4A economic development organization, and in 1990, formed the Amarillo EDC. Almost twenty-five years later, the allocation is projected to generate over $19 million in revenue, which continues to be directed toward strengthening Amarillo's economy.
