Agriculture Victoria Services Pty Ltd (AVS) was established by the Victorian Government in 1986 to provide a commercial interface between its agricultural research and development activities and the private sector. Today, AVS comprises a team of commercial professionals committed to the protection and delivery of new, leading-edge technologies to Victoria's food and fibre industries. The company is highly regarded by its customers and stakeholders as the entity responsible for the protection and commercialisation of technologies created by the Research Divisions of the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources (Agriculture Victoria Research). Activities undertaken by AVS on behalf of DEDJTR include: - Registration and management of intellectual property generated by DEDJTR Research Divisions; - Commercialisation of DEDJTR created of intellectual property to deliver industry adoption and economic benefits to Victoria and, where appropriate, fair and reasonable commercial returns to the State; - Negotiation, establishment and management of contract and collaborative research and development agreements with the private sector; and - Investment of company funds to accelerate the transfer of DEJTR technologies to market. The company is governed by a board of six directors who are appointed by the Minister for Agriculture. In summary, the primary role of AVS is to support the successful transfer of valuable DEDJTR research inventions and science capability via the private sector, to enable Victorian farmers to be more productive and competitive. The company is also responsible for ensuring the maintenance of strong contract and IP management frameworks to assist DEDJTR compliance with State Government policy and risk management obligations.
