Africa GreenTec develops, builds, supplies and operates mobile, scalable solar containers for the power supply of villages in rural Africa. In the spring of 2014, Torsten Schreiber, founder of Africa GreenTec, was invited to visit basic power plants in Bamako, the capital of Mali, by Malian Minister of Energy Frankaly Keita. He learned, that the partly 60-year-old diesel power plants cause problematic emissions in the surrounding residential areas. He developed the idea of the mobile solar container to meet the various challenges of power supply in rural Africa. In a village in Mali, our standardized 20-foot solar container (30 kWp) already supplies 1000 people with sustainable electricity in our pilot project. Africa GreenTec is a social entrepreneurial business! Our priority lies in providing our customers with fundamental resources, to reasonable prices. This way we help people in their everyday lives and lay the foundation for economical growth. Our business model is defined not only by the development and sale of the solar container. The core of our business model is to operate as a local electricity and water provider through subsidiaries in targeted countries. The mobility and scalability in power and storage of our solar containers tackle the main challenges for energy investments in rural Africa, e.g. weather protection, investor security, crisis response and uncertain demand forecasts. Where feasible our business model foresees the supply of water, internet access and renting out cooling space to generate additional revenue and support communities with much needed services. Together with our cooperation partnerships, we tackle every single SDG for 2030 of the United Nations. The headquarters of our company is in Hainburg, Hessen, near Frankfurt am Main, where most of the work takes place. This includes the design, marketing, part of the manufacturing process, sales and distribution.
