The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois improves the health and well-being of people at risk for or affected by kidney disease through prevention, education and empowerment.
In 1949, the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois began as a small but mighty group of parents desperate to find a way to save their children from dying of childhood nephrosis. The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois has since evolved into a multi-faceted non-profit organization that provides educational programs and support for individuals living with kidney disease and their families, continuing education programs for healthcare professionals, and advocacy to advance initiatives that directly affect the care and treatment of chronic kidney disease.
The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois is an affiliate of the National Kidney Foundation based in New York, NY. The National Kidney Foundation and its affiliates and divisions fund more than one third of all medical research for kidney disease performed in the U.S. The Illinois affiliate is a leader in educating the public about the prevention of kidney disease through its KidneyMobile® , which offers free screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease.
