The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe is working towards attaining self-sufficiency and to better serve the needs of Akwesasne community members. The keys to self-sufficiency are sound economic development and the provision of essential government services to reservation residents. The Tribe and its two gaming operations--Akwesasne Mohawk Casino and Mohawk Bingo Palace--directly employ around 1,100 tribal members and non-Natives. It's more than 100 tribally registered business also provide hundreds of employment opportunities and licensed enterprises provide revenue that supports health and senior services, Boys & Girls Club, fire and police departments, and a host of other community programs. The Tribe has helped make Akwesasne an economic engine for Northern New York State and attempts to keep the region viable for businesses.
