About
Garage Project is an independent, Wellington-based brewery from humble beginnings. In 2011, Pete Gillespie, Jos Ruffell and Ian Gillespie transformed an old car garage in Aro Valley to begin brewing 50 litres at a time. When you're brewing on such a small scale you can afford to take risks. That suited us. We wanted to try something new. We started with 24/24. 24 different beers, 24 weeks. For 6 months we took a brand new brew down to Hashigo Zake every week and let the public try (and review!) each one. Flash forward, and in just a few short years, we've brewed over 180 different beers, and we've grown massively. But whether we're brewing 50 litres or 2000, we're still here to take some risks, to have a bit of fun and to try something new. Garage Project's aim is to create unique and beautiful beers. We like pushing boundaries, reinterpreting styles and challenging the notions of what beer can be. We're here to try something new. Garage Project's beers are now sought after throughout the world. Garage – is about approaching things with a garage mentality. It's about playing around, making do and thinking outside the box. The surroundings might be basic but this is no barrier to creativity. This is bière de garage – beer from the garage. Project – because it's ongoing, it's a work in progress and we plan to keep it that way, it's about experimenting, pushing boundaries, blurring the boundaries between styles. We are attracting a whole new world of consumers who previously wouldn't have identified themselves as ‘beer drinkers'. Expanding our universe, Garage Project is driven to change beer forever, we love brewing at a prolific rate, challenging people's perceptions of what beer can be.
