From 2001 through 2004, the firm operated as a sole proprietorship where the owner worked as the sole employee supporting subcontract opportunities under other Federal Contractors. In 2004, the firm received its 8(a) status; approached the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to provide support and acquired two (2) five year federal contracts within three (3) months of obtaining its 8(a) status. These contracts were for Acquisition and Human Resource Support and enabled the company to immediately hire eight (8) employees.
The firm provided outstanding support to this organization and within 2 ½ years acquired its third government contract under DHS providing warehouse and mail room support. Trevor L. In 2009, Trevor L. Newman, LLC, acquired a one-year contract with the Department of Defense, Navy providing Procurement Analyst support. The one-year contract was renewed and expanded in 2010 to a total of 23 new personnel. During the same time, the company was approached by Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) for Acquisition and Logistics support and also General Services Administration (GSA) to provide Acquisition and Furniture Design for GSA clients.
In 2010, Trevor L. Newman, LLC started doing business as Leonard-Newman Unlimited; was nominated as a finalist for the 2010 - Black Enterprise – Small Business of the Year; received it’s Service Disabled Veteran Owned certification; expanded its services to include Architect and Design; and increased to 54 employees.
