In Business since 1946 Baldwin & Shell has consistently maintained a leadership role in the construction field. Werner C. Knoop, Olen A. Cates, and P.W. Baldwin joined forces to form The Baldwin Company in 1946. Mr. Knoop brought over 20 years experience in business management and engineering to the company. Mr. Baldwin was the best builder in the South, and Mr. Cates brought his extensive financial ability to the firm. In 1950 Robert J. Shell, who had joined the company and was working on an outside project was brought into the office to become a management trainee.
