From its beginning in 1990, Crozer-Keystone Health System, located minutes from Philadelphia, has been the dominant provider of health care in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, northern Delaware, and part of western New Jersey. The population covered represents almost a million people. Crozer-Keystone provides a full spectrum of wellness, prevention, acute care, rehabilitation and restorative care to the community. The health system comprises: Five hospitals Comprehensive physician network of primary-care and specialty practices, Healthplexr Sports Club These facilities house a Level 2 trauma center, a regional burn center, two regional cancer centers, a fertility center, a sleep-disorders center, and a U.S. Olympic Committee designated sports science and technology center. Crozer-Keystone Health System Created Crozer-Keystone Health System, a not-for-profit health system, was established in 1990 by the merger of Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland and Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill. Today, the health system comprises five hospitals: Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Delaware County Memorial Hospital, as well as Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park, Springfield Hospital in Springfield, and Community Hospital in Chester. In addition, the health system operates several outpatient centers, the Healthplex Sports Club, and a comprehensive physician network of primary-care and specialty practices. The health system provides a full spectrum of wellness, prevention, acute care, rehabilitation and restorative care to the community. These system includes a Level 2 trauma center; a regional burn center; two regional cancer centers affiliated with Fox Chase Cancer Center; a fertility center; sleep-disorders centers; a wound care center with hyperbaric medicine; comprehensive maternity services, including intensive care nurseries and maternal fetal medicine; advanced heart care services, including open heart surgery; orthopedic, sports medicine and rehabilitation services; senior health services; medical imaging services; and much more. With more than 1,100 physicians and 6,800 total employees, Crozer-Keystone is the largest employer and health care provider in Delaware County. In recent years, the health system has been honored by health care and civic organizations for providing advancement opportunities for women, as well as for promoting employee health through an interactive education program. Crozer-Keystone is also a vital part of the business community, as a provider of occupational health services and a member of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce. A leader in community health, Crozer-Keystone provides services and programs that meet the medical and social needs of thousands of Delaware County's residents each year. The American Hospital Association awarded Crozer-Keystone with a NOVA Award for its excellence and innovation in community health. Crozer-Keystone is also a supporter of evidence-based medicine (EBM), which utilizes universally accepted "best medical practices" to treat a variety of conditions and diseases, such as heart attack and stroke. In addition, the health system is an advocate of important health care issues set forth by the American Hospital Association, the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, and the Delaware Valley Health Care Council.
