Serving more than 30,000 members, Greater Somerset County YMCA is so much more than a fitness center. It’s a nonprofit committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Greater Somerset County YMCA employs more than 1,000 people and provides volunteer opportunities for more than 1,600 people.
Greater Somerset County YMCA listens and responds to the critical needs of the community, focusing on the most vulnerable citizens and under-served populations. Some community support programs the Y is most proud of include:
• Career Forum to help those in job transition gain professional networking and job-search skills
• Saturdays in Motion to provide children with autism and their families the chance to play and socialize
• LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA to assist cancer survivors in regaining their strength during and after treatment
• Scholarships to give students a head start on their path to success
The Y opened its doors in Somerset County in 1873 in Somerville, and has been supporting its local communities with programs for youth, adults, seniors and families ever since. Our five branches are: Bridgewater YMCA, Hillsborough YMCA, Somerville YMCA, Somerset Hills YMCA, and Plainfield YMCA, a Y without walls that offers programs such as after-school care and summer camp within the Plainfield community.
At the Y, we believe that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, should have the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive, which is why we provide financial assistance to those who qualify.
Our full and part-time employees enjoy competitive benefits and are offered opportunities for professional development as well as a fun, rewarding work atmosphere. A free membership to the Y is included for all staff.
