Core Dance creates art, facilitates art-making, and engenders art engagement for those seeking to connect with what makes us uniquely human: our intellect, our emotional body, our spiritual center. The body is our playground, movement our building blocks. Within our bodies resides the whole of life, every truth. Through dance and the process of creating it we activate that which makes us individually unique and connect it to that which makes us indivisibly One.
Mission
To create, perform, and present compelling, original dance that ignites the creative spirit and actively engages in international cultural conversations. In our communities, we support innovation, collaboration, artistic risk-taking, and sustainable art-making in dance.Vision:We serve as a catalyst for the continued evolution of Atlanta and Houston as dynamic centers for dance, with the knowledge that dance as art-making is a vital element of the fabric of human experience.
VISION
We envision Core Dance as a stimulus for the continued evolution of Atlanta and Houston as dynamic centers for dance, with the knowledge that dance as art-making is an essential element of the fabric of our human experience, connecting us to each other.
VALUES
Core Dance values purposeful artistic risk taking, invention, community participation, led collaboration, knowledge sharing and enquiry carried out with integrity, compassion and an attention to balance between human resources, financial resources and activity level to amplify the quality of our work and the health of our organization.
History
The 2017-18 arts season marks our 37th anniversary. Since our founding in Houston in 1980, we have performed 125 pieces of original choreography across the globe, collaborating with the renowned and the obscured. Our passion for making art is matched only by our passion for encouraging art making; for 25 years we have led the Fieldwork program – a unique facilitated forum for artists of all disciplines to share work in progress and exchange feedback over the course of 10 weeks – in both Houston and Atlanta, two 10-week sessions each year in each city. And our compassion for our communities at large leads us to share what we know about bodies and movement with isolated populations – those dealing with abuse, homelessness, language barriers, refugee status, substance abuse, aging, and HIV/AIDS.Core Dance Address
