About
WGM's main ministries in Kenya, in cooperation with Africa Gospel Church, are church planting, evangelism, discipleship, theological training at Kenya Highlands Bible College and Kaboson Pastors' School, Theological Education by Extension, medical work and training at Tenwek Hospital, community health and development through Tenwek Hospital and among the Maasai and West Pokot tribes, children's work through the Africa Gospel Church Baby Center, and mass media. WGM missionaries in Nairobi are also involved in evangelism, medical work, and orphanage ministries to children in the capital city. Africa Gospel Church: Africa Gospel Church, headquartered in Kericho, Kenya, is the outgrowth of WGM's work in Kenya. AGC is administered by a moderator, assistant moderator, and church administrator and operates seven departments-Media, Christian Education, Radio, Publications, Youth, Women, and Evangelism. AGC has more than 1,300 congregations throughout Kenya with an average weekly attendance of 300,000. Tenwek Hospital: Tenwek Hospital, one of the largest Protestant mission hospitals in Kenya, began as a humble clinic in 1935. Tenwek, working under the motto "We treat, Jesus heals," is located in rural Kenya, 140 miles west of Nairobi, in the fertile highlands of the Bomet district. In addition to being the primary hospital for the area's 1 million people, it is also a referral hospital that receives patients from other parts of the country. Each year, Tenwek's staff treats more than 10,000 inpatients and 70,000 outpatients. In addition to the hospital, Tenwek's programs include Tenwek School of Nursing; the L. Nelson Bell Chaplaincy School; the medical intern training program; the Community Health and Development Department of Tenwek; and INFAMED, the hospital's family practice residency program. Kenya Highlands Bible College: Kenya Highlands Bible College, a post-secondary-level school near Kericho, was started in 1953 by WGM missionaries. The school seeks to train young people to emulate Christ as church leaders by providing Bible, theology, and Christian education training for students from a number of African countries and tribes. Approximately 80 students attend KHBC each year, and most graduates go on to serve with Africa Gospel Church. Kaboson Pastors' School: WGM and Africa Gospel Church joined forces in 1993 to open Kaboson Pastors' School in southwest Kenya, approximately 20 miles south of Tenwek Hospital. The school was opened to meet the vital need for national pastors to get the formal education and theological training they were lacking. After graduation, more than 90 percent of Kaboson graduates go into full-time ministry as evangelists, missionaries, or pastors. Africa Gospel Church Baby Center: This home for orphaned and abandoned babies is being built near Nakuru and will serve as an outreach of Africa Gospel Church. The center will house approximately 50 orphaned or abandoned babies, ranging from newborns to 3 year olds. Every effort will be made to place the children for adoption into Christian homes whereby they can grow to reach their God-given potential and become productive members of the community. Those children not adopted by 3 years of age will be referred to other facilities geared toward that age group.
