GIET University, Gunupur was established as a trust “Vidya Bharathi Education Trust†in the year of 1996 in an economically backward and geographically obscured location, Gunupur in Rayagada district, Odisha. The Trust started working in the area of education & literacy, towards the promotion of modern and technical education in India and started Gandhi Institute of Engineering & Technology (GIET), Gunupur in the year of 1997 with a motto of providing quality technical education in a highly disciplined environment with international standards. GIET Gunupur has attained autonomous status in the year 2016 and in December 2018, GIET Autonomous; added another gleaming feather to its cap with the conferment of the university status through an act of Odisha Legislative Assembly.
