Canterbury City Council is the district council for Canterbury, Herne Bay and Whitstable, and 24 local villages.\r\n\r\nWe are responsible for delivering more than 70 services to residents, businesses and visitors. Services include waste collection, planning, culture and leisure facilities, open spaces, parking, street cleaning and regulatory functions such as environmental health, licensing, council tax and business rate collection.\r\n\r\nKent County Council is responsible for education, highways, social services and libraries.\r\n\r\nIncreasingly our work is delivered in partnership with others. We have shared service arrangements with our neighbours in Dover and Thanet to run our contact centre, ICT and revenues and benefits services. Housing is another example, delivered by East Kent Housing.\r\n\r\nServices such as leisure centres and waste collection are carried out by external providers on our behalf. We manage the contract arrangements and work closely with the provider to ensure they meet the required performance standards. Our customers deal with them directly about the services they provide.\r\n\r\nThe main council offices are in Military Road, Canterbury, CT1 1YW.\r\n\r\nKent Police and the Fire and Rescue Service work with us in partnerships like the Community Safety Unit who deal with anti-social behaviour and crime prevention.\r\n\r\nwww.canterbury.gov.uk
