The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) coordinates preparedness, response, and recovery efforts to protect Tennesseans from man-made, natural and technological threats and hazards. TEMA acts under state law and the Governor's authority to coordinate with local, state, and federal officials in declared emergencies, manage grant programs to help local communities recover from disasters, and engage in mitigation efforts to lessen the potential impacts to lives and properties from myriad threats. TEMA is nationally-accredited by the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) of the National Emergency Managers Association (NEMA) meeting 64 professional standards of emergency management excellence.
