The mission of the Curious Learning is to use the power of mobile devices and large data analytics informed by the science of learning to provide the opportunity for children to learn to read and inspire a curiosity to keep learning in populations that have no access to school or are in under-resourced schools. We are a nonprofit organization in the United States with an audacious goal: Bring basic education to children around the world, regardless of their location or resources-even where there are no schools-and lift them out of poverty. It's audacious but, to us, realistic: Our pilots have revealed that 4 to 8 year-olds, driven by their own curiosity, and empowered by advances in mobile technology, can teach themselves letters and basic words in just months. We're optimistic our approach can lead them to full literacy and, ultimately, the empowerment of a basic education. Our method is evidence-based, using data to continuously optimize the program for success. Our pilots have seen children in remotest Ethiopia, with no access to schools, achieve early literacy skills. Preschoolers in the slums of Kampala have gained new, previously unthinkable heights. Even in the rural American South we've seen impoverished preschoolers close the gap that puts them behind even before kindergarten.
