Students 2 Science, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that inspires, motivates, and educates elementary, middle and high school students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM subjects). We accomplish this by operating a modern analytical chemistry laboratory for the sole purpose of providing students with a real-life work experience while introducing them to a wide variety of STEM career opportunities. Middle and high school students visit our laboratory and perform hands-on, age-appropriate experiments that emphasize the subjects taught in their classrooms and support the State and Federal Core Curriculum standards. Students become excited as they operate sophisticated laboratory instrumentation including chromatographs and spectrophotometers to solve challenging technical problems, while benefitting from a mentoring relationship. Additionally, S2S provides a supplementary education experience to support teachers in the classroom by way of its V-Lab Program. The V-Lab Program consists of a series of supplemental, age-appropriate, hands-on science experiments for grades 4 through 12 to be performed by the students in their local classrooms and simultaneously at the S2S Technology Center, by use of high speed video teleconferencing. Technical professionals from the community and local corporations volunteer to work side-by-side with these young students, providing them with support, inspiration, and career advice. Our metrics over the past six years clearly demonstrate the program's overall effectiveness at reducing intimidation and increasing the students' self confidence in subjects that are traditionally viewed as too difficult.
