The Richmond Volleyball Club, a private, not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1981 when two area leagues, TRAVL and FanLeague, merged and opened what is now RVC's East location at 3300 West Marshall Street. The popularity of league play at RVC grew tremendously during the 1980's, resulting in a much needed expansion. In the fall of 1991, RVC West, with six courts at 1907 Westmoreland Street, opened its doors to the membership. Two locations now house a total of ten courts, making RVC one of the largest volleyball-dedicated facilities in the world. Four full-time and approximately twenty part-time employees operate the club. A volunteer Board of Directors, consisting of nine members selected from the general membership, guides RVC management. Currently, RVC has nearly 2,500 active members and up to 250 teams participating in evening recreational leagues from Sunday through Friday. The club also hosts many adult and juniors USAV tournaments, including regionals. In addition, RVC sponsors outdoor tournaments, skills clinics, referee training, and other special events related to the promotion of volleyball...the sport for a lifetime.
