About
About Us Population Foundation of India (PFI) is a national NGO, which promotes and advocates for the formulation and implementation of gender sensitive population, health and development strategies and policies. Co-founded by the late JRD Tata and Dr Bharat Ram in 1970, the organisation is guided by an eminent governing board and advisory council comprising distinguished persons from civil society, the government, and the private sector. Areas of Focus PFI addresses population issues within the larger discourse of empowering women and men, so that they are able to take informed decisions related to their fertility, health and well-being. It works with the government, policymakers, civil society organisations and the media to promote women's reproductive rights and health through evidence-based advocacy and use of social and behaviour change communication to influence socio-cultural norms and practices. Promoting community action for health and the scaling up of successful pilots, it provides grants to NGOs whose work is aligned with PFI's priorities.
