Thirty years ago, in a District still rebuilding from the riots and where the crack epidemic debilitated entire neighborhoods, the city’s residents were suffering. Recognizing their shared responsibility to support their neighbors, a group of individuals and faith communities joined forces to help DC’s growing homeless population and established Housing Up (formerly known as Transitional Housing Corporation). Housing Up has evolved over the past 30 years, once serving only 13 families and now supporting over 700 in a variety of housing types including rapid re-housing, permanent supportive housing, and affordable housing.
In 2016, THC rebranded as Housing Up - a name that reflects the full scope of the programs, housing options and work we do. As Housing Up, our mission remains the same – housing families, providing supportive services and empowering families to transform their lives.
