In 1988, a one-bank holding company, Lamoine Bancorp, Inc., was formed and the bank's name was changed to First State Bank of Western Illinois. In 1989, the Carthage branch of First Midwest/Quincy was purchased by First State. The acquisition doubled the size of First State from $25 million to $50 million in assets. In 1990, First State purchased the Macomb branch of Gem City Savings. In 1997, First State Express Bank was opened inside Thompson Food Basket. In 2000, First State Express Bank moved to Hy-Vee Food Store. In 2000, First State purchased the Hamilton branch of Associated Bank. In 2004, First State purchased the Blandinsville branch of Union Bank and the Monmouth Branch of Associated Bank. First State's assets currently stand at $150 million.
