The Davenport Hotel is Spokane's finest and only AAA Four Diamond hotel. Originally opened in 1914, the hotel closed in 1985 and demolition was considered. Local entrepreneurs Walt & Karen Worthy purchased the hotel in 2000 and gave it a complete renovation. The hotel was re-opened in 2002 and re-established as "one of America's exceptional hotels. The Davenport Hotel offers 283 guest rooms and is rated "best hotel,""best place to bring visiting relatives" and "most attractive old building" by locals. The public reception of the new Davenport Hotel has been so encouraging, that the Worthys have begun construction on the Davenport Hotel Tower across the street, to add 300 guest rooms and two dozen apartment residences with an expected opening date of Fall 2006. The Davenport Hotel is a member of Historical Hotels of America.
