Energen Corporation is a diversified energy holding company engaged primarily in the acquisition, development, exploration and production of oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids in the continental United States, and in the purchase, distribution and sale of natural gas, principally in central and north Alabama. Its two major subsidiaries are Energen Resources Corporation and Alabama Gas Corporation (Alagasco). As of December 31, 2002, Energen Resources' inventory of proved oil and gas reserves totaled 1,262.9 billion cubic feet equivalent. Substantially all of the Company's reserves are located in the San Juan Basin in New Mexico, the Black Warrior Basin in Alabama, the Permian Basin in west Texas and the north Louisiana/east Texas region. Alagasco is a natural gas distribution utility in the state of Alabama.
