About
Fingal County Council was established in 1994 and is the Local Authority for the administrative county of Fingal. Fingal is located to the north of Dublin City and is also bordered by South County Dublin, Meath and Kildare, and to the east by the Irish Sea. The county covers an area of c. 448 sq. km. Fingal has a population of 273,051 (Census 2011) making it the third most populous local authority area in the country. The population increased by over 63% between 1996 and 2011. The county also has the youngest population in the country. Fingal's significant economic advantages including Dublin Airport, fast access to Dublin Port, rail, road, power and telecommunications infrastructure. Proximity to Dublin city centre and our location on the Dublin-Belfast economic corridor, ensure our continued future growth. Dublin Airport is nationally significant due to it's employment base, passenger throughput and airfreight services and it remains the primary economic hub in Fingal. Fingal is defined by the diversity of its landscape. It is rural, urban and suburban. It is home to established communities who trace their roots back hundreds of years - these sit side by side with communities who are emerging with little past but exciting futures. Fingal has 88 km of coastline stretching from Sutton to Balbriggan. We have three protected estuaries, salt marsh habitats and thirteen major beaches. The River Liffey borders our south-western edge.
