Valence is a sensory substitution product used to augment the emotional perception of neurodiverse people. The software runs on haptic wristbands, taking in audio data and outputting the emotional sentiment of speech as temporospatial vibrations. Because neurodiverse people have difficulty in processing complex emotional inputs, this technology helps people interpret the emotional valence of those they speak with in an easier way by replacing nuanced social cues in vocal pitch with discrete haptic outputs conveying the same information.
