Block Institute wants what every parent wants for their child. A supportive circle of friends. The ability to care for oneself. A feeling of purpose. In other words, to be an active participant in their own lives. Given the right opportunity and care, it's amazing what people can achieve through hard work and determination. We witness it every day. Since 1962, Block Institute has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The agency's programs were formerly known as the Brooklyn School for Special Children (BSSC), Community Residential Opportunities for Handicapped (CROH), and Training & Rehabilitation in Useful Service (TRIUS). Based in Brooklyn, New York, we provide unique and individualized services to children and adults with disabilities who reside within the five boroughs of New York City. Our programs include Educational Services, Adult Day Services, Vocational Services and Residential Services, as well as Medicaid Service Coordination and Clinical Services. Block Institute provides services to approximately 1,400 individuals each year, including children with special needs enrolled in Education Services, adults in our Day Services programs, and adults in Residential Services.
