Discover the ocean, understand the planet with Canada's national ocean observatory. Ocean Networks Canada enhances life on Earth by providing knowledge and leadership that deliver solutions for science, society, and industry.
Ocean Networks Canada (ONC) cabled ocean observatories monitor the west and east coasts of Canada and the Arctic to continuously gather data in real-time for scientific research that helps communities, governments and industry make informed decisions about our future.
Long-term continuous scientific data from the ocean environment are gathered by ONC and made available for free through Oceans 2.0 - our powerful online data management system.
The science enabled by ONC includes understanding human-induced changed, life in diverse environments, interconnections among the seafloor, ocean and atmosphere and seafloor and sediment in motion. ONC is also developing an earthquake early warning system for the Government of British Columbia, due to launch in 2019.
Ocean Networks Canada is an initiative of the University of Victoria, funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation, Government of Canada, Government of British Columbia, CANARIE, and IBM Canada.
