Big Bend Telephone Company, Inc., of Alpine has established a scholarship program for a graduating senior from one of the high schools in the company's service region. Graduating seniors from Comstock High School, Presidio High School, Sanderson High School, and Big Bend High School who plan to attend Sul Ross State University are eligible for this important scholarship. The program provides an opportunity for each high school to nominate one outstanding graduating senior for the Big Bend Telephone Company Scholarship award each year. The Sul Ross State University Scholarship Committee will then choose one recipient from the nominees to be the Big Bend Telephone Company Scholar. This program was established by Big Bend Telephone Company as evidence of its commitment to serve the needs of Southwest Texas, its interest in the continuing growth and development of the region, and its belief in education as an essential revitalizing force in the region. Big Bend Telephone Company serves over 18,000 square miles in eight Southwest Texas counties. The company is headquartered in Alpine, the home of Sul Ross State University. Sul Ross State University is a state-supported four year university with graduate offerings in several areas.
