About
Parramatta is recognised as the future growth centre of Sydney and offers a wide range of attractions for Sydney-siders and visitors alike, and is home to elegant parks and heritage sites, award-winning restaurants, and a vibrant and youthful culture. Council plays a key role in revitalising the local government area, be it by progressing the redevelopment of Civic Place, upgrading neighbourhoods, organising design excellence competitions or assisting organisations who want to move their head office to Parramatta. We aim to transform the City into a place that people not only want to live and work in, but to visit - be it for a fine dining experience, to attend a festival, explore some of the country's oldest buildings, or ‘shop until they drop'. As well as shaping the City into the future, Council also partners with State and Federal Government agencies on big picture issues, including integrated public transport, pathways to employment, tackling homelessness and fostering affordable housing. Parramatta City Council delivers 40 external services to our residential and business communities, including maintaining parks and bushlands; delivering Meals on Wheels; and running over 50s leisure activities and school holiday activities, to name only a few. While such ‘business as usual service' delivery is often highly visible, Council works behind the scenes with other tiers of government to help bring about the vibrant reinvigorated regional hub that we want Parramatta to be in 2025. local government, library services, major events
